The AETHER project aims to advance the field of Artificial Intelligence for Earth Observation (AI4EO) by developing innovative explainable AI (xAI) approaches that increase transparency, trust, and usability of AI models for real-world environmental applications.
Through targeted use cases, cutting-edge methodology development, and strong community engagement, the project will demonstrate how xAI can transform complex EO data into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers, scientists, and society.
To achieve this vision, AETHER focuses on the following key objectives:
- Design and implement new approaches that make AI models more interpretable, trustworthy, and scientifically robust.
- Demonstrate enhanced trust and applicability through three real-world use cases
- Build a user-friendly graphical interface that allows non-AI experts to interact with xAI models and EO data easily, demonstrating practical usability in real-world scenarios.
- Foster collaboration through open-source tools, scientific publications, and workshops, ensuring the broad accessibility and impact of AETHER’s results.
Together, we will provide reliable monitoring in unpredictable times!
